Andalusia council approves beer and wine license for Venice Stop and Go; adopts nuisance-abatement resolution

Andalusia City Council approved a retail off-premises beer and a retail off-premises wine license for Venice Stop and Go Inc. and adopted Resolution 2025-5-28 declaring four properties nuisances at its August 2025 meeting at City Hall.

The alcohol license application was described by the mayor as an application to the State of Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board for a 50 retail off-premises beer license and a 70 retail off-premises wine license for Venice Stop and Go Inc., trade name Venice Stop and Go. Councilman Boswell moved to approve the application; the motion was seconded by Councilman Nicks. The mayor called for the vote. The mayor recorded one no vote and one abstention; the mayor then said, “the ayes have it,” and the application was approved.

The council also adopted Resolution 2025-5-28, described in the meeting materials as a nuisance-abatement resolution covering four lots: 108 Chestnut Street, 110 Chestnut Street, 306 Morrison Street and 401 Sixth Avenue. Councilwoman Griffin moved for adoption of the resolution; Councilman Nicks seconded. The mayor called for the vote and the council approved the resolution (the mayor observed the vote as unanimous).

The meeting contained no further substantive business. The mayor reminded residents that the municipal election for mayor and council would be held Aug. 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kiwanis Building and urged residents to vote.

The actions taken at this brief session consisted of the two formal approvals above; no additional motions, substantive discussion on either approval, or amendments to the motions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
