Jackson County says courthouse annex near completion; approves network purchase for move-in

Jackson County commissioners on Sept. 8 were told that construction at the county courthouse annex is nearly complete and approved procurement of network hardware and services to support staff moving into the building.
County leaders said most construction punch-list items remain only for final clean-up and architect review. Commissioners were told contractors have completed major work in the annex foyer and workstations and that a final punch-list inspection by the architect is imminent. Officials said they plan to use the period from mid-September through December to install furniture, IT and related systems and to transition operations; the annex is expected to open for business in January.
Commissioners also reported an unexpected sewer-line issue at the courthouse that was not part of the original construction contract. The commission approved awarding a contract to repair the sewer lines for “in the neighborhood of about $23,000,” according to remarks at the meeting.
Ross Boynton, the county IT director, presented a revised procurement proposal for networking hardware, upgraded Wi‑Fi and associated professional services for the annex. Boynton said he re-examined earlier, higher pricing and pared the proposal back to what the county actually needs to match county standards (same switches in use elsewhere in county facilities and a Cisco-supported warranty). He said the professional services would handle installation and that the equipment includes a five-year Cisco warranty.
Commissioners voted to approve the purchase and installation of the network hardware and professional services; the vote was taken by voice and carried (voice vote recorded as all in favor).
Chair remarks at the meeting said funds for the network purchase will come from fund identified in the packet (referenced verbally at the meeting as “1.01 16”); the transcript did not provide a formal fund code or ordinance citation beyond that reference.
The commission did not adopt additional motion language about specific vendors at the meeting. The county indicated a short period of contractor punch-list work remains, and staff will return with final close-out items and any remaining funding needs.
Ending Commissioners scheduled the next regular meeting for Sept. 22, 2025, at which budget work and follow-ups on capital items including the annex are expected to appear on the agenda.
