Residents urge board to investigate summer turnover of four administrators

Two members of the public asked the Faribault Public Schools board on Aug. 18 to investigate the summer departures of four district administrators and to conduct exit interviews to determine why they left.
At the start of public comment, Carolyn Treadway — who said she subs at the district’s ALC — said, “I’m here to ask the board to investigate what's behind the departure of 4 administrators this summer. I don't believe it was mere coincidence.” Treadway said a stable administrative team is important to the quality of education.
Martha Brown, who described herself as active in high-school activities and in coordination of music and arts scholarships, told the board she was "shocked and dismayed" by the departures and said, “If this were a public corporation ... a board would call the CEO in and say what is going on.” Brown urged the board to conduct exit interviews and address causes of turnover, saying continual loss of leaders “is expensive” and damages staff morale and student outcomes.
Both speakers asked the board to look for systemic reasons administrators chose to leave and to report back to the public; the speakers asserted the departures were not coincidental and said they had personal connections to departing staff.
Board members did not announce any immediate action during the public-comment period to open a formal investigation; the comments were recorded in the public comment segment of the Aug. 18 meeting.
