Sign board approves Paragon Plastic Surgery lettering variance; no applicant present

The City of Southlake Sign Board voted 5-0 on Aug. 21, 2025, to approve a sign-variance request for Paragon Plastic Surgery at 1130 N. Carroll Ave., Suite 100, leaving an existing non-illuminated wall sign as installed.
Staff said the sign’s only noncompliant feature is letter depth: the installed letters are three-quarters of an inch deep whereas the ordinance requires a minimum depth of two inches. Staff also showed adjacent tenant signs and explained some existing signs predate the ordinance change that added the 2-inch letter-depth requirement.
No applicant representative appeared at the hearing; staff noted an email from the practice indicating the doctor might be in surgery during the meeting. Board members said the sign “is essentially what’s up there right now” and that the variance request concerned letter depth only. One member observed the installed sign was not materially different from neighboring signs and motioned to approve the staff recommendation to leave the sign as is.
The board’s 5-0 vote approves the existing sign for Paragon Plastic Surgery; the decision was recorded with reference to the staff report dated Aug. 15, 2025.
