The City of Cody Planning and Zoning and Adjustment Board approved sign modifications Thursday allowing the Cody Country Art League, which is rebranding to the Cody Arts Gallery and Creative Center, to modify several existing signs at 836 Sheridan Avenue.
Staff reported the application — submitted by Renee Kubby on behalf of the Cody Country Art League — would modify two wall signs and two suspended signs. Staff recommended approval with conditions, including that the applicant obtain a WYDOT permit for street signage or a letter from WYDOT stating a permit is not required prior to issuance of the building permit.
Board members discussed whether WYDOT clearance should be resolved before the local review. Staff said WYDOT had indicated informally that the permit would be a formality and that required dimensions and photos had been provided; staff recommended approval while the WYDOT procedural step is finalized.
Staff also noted the site contains preexisting signs installed before the current sign ordinance (circa 2007); the proposed work was described as modifying existing, nonconforming suspended signs by rewrapping them rather than installing new signage that would exceed current square-foot limits.
A motion to approve the sign modifications with the staff conditions carried; the chair announced approval. The action is conditioned on receipt of WYDOT clearance or a WYDOT no-permit-required letter before a building permit is issued.
