Council votes to end irrigation season early, books July 2026 concert and approves minutes

The Burleigh City Council voted unanimously Aug. 20 to end the city's irrigation water season on Sept. 30, 2025, and to move forward with booking country performer Chris Peterson for the city's July 2026 activities. The council also approved the minutes from its June 19 meeting and adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
The most consequential action was a motion, made by Council member Troy Crackle and seconded by Wolfenstein, to shut off irrigation service on Sept. 30, 2025. Crackle told the council the later shutoff would give residents additional time to complete meter installations and help the city manage limited water supplies while a large meter-replacement grant project progresses. The motion passed unanimously; the council directed staff to publicize the cutoff via the city's Facebook page and in upcoming utility billing.
The council also moved to book musician Chris Peterson for the city's July activities in 2026. Council member Sherry Prestwich made the motion; Jake Bagley seconded. Council members discussed the contract terms during the meeting: Peterson's full band was offered at a reduced rate of $3,500 (presented to council as the promoter's cost), and the council noted local sponsors had volunteered to cover hotel rooms and other expenses. The motion carried on a voice vote.
Other procedural votes included acceptance of the June 19, 2025 meeting minutes (motion by Sherry; second by Prestwich) and a motion to adjourn by Council member Joe Green, seconded by Jake Bagley; both motions passed by voice vote.
Council members and staff said they will follow up with public notices about the irrigation cutoff and with the performer's contract logistics and sponsorship outreach.
