The Wausau Board of Public Works on Aug. 19 approved authorizations for two asphalt suppliers, accepted multiple contractor pay estimates for ongoing public-works projects, and extended the completion date for the Downtown Mall redevelopment after hearing that another contractor's schedule had caused delays.
City Attorney Anne Jacobson and Alan Wasilowski, sitting in for Eric Lindman, presided over a meeting in which Department of Public Works staff said one bid for a 2025 slip-line repair project came in higher than the department's estimate and that staff would consult with the sewer division and return the matter to a future meeting.
The board voted to allow the Department of Public Works to purchase asphalt materials from both American Asphalt and RC Pavers so crews can secure material when needed. DPW staff said the city has used both local vendors for years and that relying on a single supplier could impede operations during peak paving periods. A motion to authorize purchases from both vendors passed.
