The commission reviewed logistics and volunteer assignments for the Million Father March scheduled for Friday, Aug. 8, 2025.
Members said the march will include multiple schools; minutes and discussion named Lincoln, Glenwood Lodge, AIS, Linwood and a principal-expressed interest from Washington. Commissioner Diana Clayton and others volunteered to cover specific schools; Commissioner Phipps said he could be assigned to Linwood. The commission said it will send an email with report time and individual assignments later this week.
Committee members discussed merchandise: they said hats from the prior event remain available and that purchasing new T-shirts could be postponed until next year. Commissioners expressed a preference to avoid unnecessary expense if usable hats remain.
No formal vote was taken. Staff said they had submitted school requests to Tony Hamilton and were awaiting confirmation for one school. Commissioners encouraged wider publicity and noted that community participation in prior years included local law enforcement and parents who joined spontaneously.
The commission also noted outreach benefits: principals had invited members into schools in prior years to observe and discuss support for students and staff. Commissioners said the march is intended as a visible show of support for students on the first full day of attendance.
