Policy committee adds disciplinary language to policy on abortion referrals; updated policy to receive first reading

Member Sadeau, speaking for the policy committee, told the board the committee reviewed rescinded policy 2410 and assessed whether language in policy 2414 captured the intended prohibition on referrals for abortion. After discussion with legal counsel and PCCS’s NEOLA policy representative, the committee added language to policy 2414 stating any school official, board member or employee who violates the policy is subject to disciplinary action.

Sadeau said the updated policy 2414 will come to the full board for a first read at the next board meeting. The committee also reviewed policies 2260 and 5111 (access/equal educational opportunity) and concluded no new language was required to remain in compliance with local, state and federal law. NEOLA will provide an updated draft of policy 7320 (gifts, grants and bequests) to the next committee meeting.

The policy committee meeting included participation from legal counsel and the NEOLA representative; Member Picard and Member Voss attended and provided citizen comments at the start of the committee meeting, Sadeau noted.

Ending: The board was advised the revised policy language will be formally presented for first reading at the next full board meeting; no immediate board vote occurred at this session.
