Summary
Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Anderson reminded the board Aug. 25 to prioritize impact-aid form completion and described planned support for military families navigating special-education processes.
Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Anderson, the Papillion La Vista Community Schools military adviser, updated the board on military-related outreach and assistance at the Aug. 25 meeting.
Anderson asked district staff to emphasize impact-aid paperwork with families and principals, saying a district-wide push will begin to ensure eligible students are counted and the district receives related federal funding. He urged principals to run rosters and coordinate with school liaisons so families receive messaging about impact-aid eligibility.
Anderson also described collaboration between school liaison officers, the Exceptional Family Member Program, the Military and Family Readiness Center, and PTI Nebraska on a "Getting Organized" workshop designed to help military families navigate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, parental rights and strategies for resolving disagreements during transitions in and out of the district. He invited the board and public to an end-of-summer community event at Base Lake where the military will host giveaways and community activities.
Anderson concluded by asking whether there were questions and noted this was his communications update for the meeting.
