Summary
District staff reported results from a June community advisory council and outlined two priority goal areas — —Perseverance to Purpose— (rigor and planned pathways) and —Breaking Barriers— (engagement and access). Action teams and goal proposals will return to the board by October.
District staff briefed the Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board Aug. 25 on the district—s strategic planning process and recommended goal areas emerging from a June community advisory council meeting.
Presenters said the advisory group, which included students, administrators, teachers, board members, parents and business partners, used the Cambridge model and produced two broad thematic goal areas: "Perseverance to Purpose," emphasizing rigorous academics, planned pathways, expanded AP and academy opportunities, internships and capstone projects; and "Breaking Barriers," emphasizing engagement for all students, continuation of mental-health supports, attendance, social-emotional learning, behavior supports, family engagement and staff recruitment and retention.
Staff outlined next steps: forming diverse action teams (including students, parents, teachers, administrators and business partners), training team leaders in the Cambridge model, and returning to the board after the September retreat with any recommended changes to the mission and belief statements and the goal-and-action plans no later than October.
Board members who spoke at the meeting applauded the stakeholder representation and asked whether career and trade pathways were included; staff confirmed trades and academy opportunities were part of the pathway discussions. Presenters noted the process retained priorities from the previous five-year plan (mental health supports, academic rigor, and recruitment/retention) while adding a stronger emphasis on pathways and broader engagement.
