Summary
At its Aug. 25 meeting the Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board unanimously approved the sale of about 1.17 acres east of Anderson Grove Elementary to Foundations Development LLC and adopted a resolution to increase the district——9s base growth percentage for its property tax request authority up to 3% for the 2025-26 budget.
The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 25 to approve the sale of roughly 1.17 acres east of Anderson Grove Elementary School and adopted a resolution authorizing the district to increase the base growth percentage used to determine its property tax request authority to as much as 3% for the 2025-26 budget.
Board members approved a purchase agreement for the land, described by district staff as a parcel the district does not plan to use, with Foundations Development LLC. The board designated the assistant superintendent of business services to sign and execute the agreement and any related documents on behalf of the district.
The board also approved a resolution, read aloud during the meeting, that cites Nebraska Revised Statute 79-3403 and 79-3405 and authorizes the board by at least a 70% affirmative vote to increase the base growth percentage used to set the district—s property tax request authority. The resolution adopted on Aug. 25 limits the increase in the district—s property tax request authority for the 2025-26 budget to up to 3%.
District staff told the board the request to increase the base growth percentage responds to several budget pressures for 2025-26, including an estimated $550,000 reduction in federal Title I funding, a projected 4% increase in labor costs, the addition of a new school resource officer sergeant position, higher transportation costs, expansion of tier-3 alternative school programming, new bus routes, costs associated with a young adult transition program building, and the planned opening of a new elementary school in August 2026. Superintendent remarks at the meeting said the board—s goal when finalizing the budget will be to reduce the levy and that staff will present a firm budget in the coming weeks.
Both motions passed on roll call votes with each board member recorded as "yes." Motion language and roll-call records are included below.
