Forney approves Atmos Mid-Tex settlement; average residential bill to rise about $7.83 monthly under negotiated terms

The Forney City Council on Aug. 19 adopted an ordinance approving a negotiated settlement reached by the Atmos Cities Steering Committee (ACSC) with Atmos Energy Mid-Tex regarding Atmos' 2025 rate-review filing.
City Attorney John Thatcher explained that Atmos originally requested a systemwide revenue increase of about $245.2 million; the ACSC and its consultants reviewed the filing and negotiated a settlement that reduces the requested increase to approximately $205.6 million. Under the settlement the impact on an average residential customer was described as an increase of about $7.83 per month (roughly 9.27%). An average commercial usage example would increase about $25.73 (roughly 6.56%).
Thatcher said the ACSC represents a cooperative of roughly 180 cities that participate in negotiating Atmos filings. Staff recommended approval of the settlement ordinance. The council moved, seconded and passed the ordinance by a show of hands.
