Council approves conditional use permit for minor auto repair on East Broad Street

The Forney City Council on Aug. 19 approved a conditional use permit (CUP) to allow a minor auto repair business to operate on a 1.52-acre tract at the northwest corner of East Broad Street (FM 688) and Kaufman Street.
Planning staff said the original application included used auto sales, but the applicant amended the request to seek only a CUP for minor auto repair. The proposed facility will contain five service bays and perform services the city classifies as "minor auto repair," including oil changes, light suspension work, coolant and fluid checks, filter replacement and similar maintenance items.
Staff notified adjacent property owners and reported one resident expressed general concern about auto-related uses along Broad Street. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval by a 5–1 vote. Wade Harden, representing applicant Ryan Jacob, told the council the site is consistent with the comprehensive plan and is buffered by industrial and railroad right-of-way to the south.
Councilmember Schlenzker moved to approve the item; Ms. Delgado seconded. The ordinance amending the zoning map to include the CUP was read aloud by the city secretary and the council approved the ordinance by show of hands.
