The Forney City Council on Aug. 19 approved an ordinance amending the comprehensive zoning map to reconfigure 8.233 acres near Lake Pointe Church into two base zoning districts: neighborhood service for the frontage and single-family SF-11 for the interior lots.
Planning staff said the request covers property north and east of Lake Pointe Church. The amendment designates approximately 1.893 acres fronting FM 741 as Neighborhood Service District and about 6.43 acres behind the church as SF-11 (single-family residential) with a minimum lot area of 10,000 square feet and an 80-foot lot width.
City staff notified adjacent property owners. Planning staff reported one written response from a resident north of the subject property who expressed concern about potential crime and congestion associated with development closer to their property. At the Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing, no members of the public spoke, and the commission recommended approval.
At Tuesday's council meeting, the item was opened and closed for public hearing with no speakers from the audience; council then voted to adopt the ordinance by a show of hands. The motion to approve was made by Mr. Traylor and seconded by Mr. Weatherford and passed unanimously.
