Midvale council hears Unified Fire Authority quarterly report; approves minutes unanimously

The Midvale City Council on Aug. 5 heard a quarterly operations report from the Unified Fire Authority and unanimously approved the consent agenda, which consisted of minutes from the council meetings on July 15 and July 22.
Nathan Kaye, operations chief for the Unified Fire Authority, told the council he oversees battalions and battalion chiefs and that "the 2 Midvale City stations are now part of our new battalion, which is battalion 14." Kaye said Recruit Camp 60 began the previous day with 24 new recruits and that UFA had deployed 28 members to respond to flooding in Rio Del Sol, New Mexico from July 9 to July 20.
Kaye said UFA will conduct an after‑action review of a recent large structure fire in Mill Creek; he told the council an after‑action review was scheduled for the following day and that staff would provide lessons learned at a future meeting. "We're actually conducting a large after action review tomorrow with all of the participating folks, so I'll be able to provide a better lessons learned next meeting," he said.
The council approved the consent agenda — minutes from the July 15 and July 22 meetings — on a motion and second and a roll call that recorded votes in favor by Council Member Paul Glover, Council Member Heidi Robinson, Council Member Bridal Brown and another member listed in the roll call as "Nicholas." Council Member Billings was excused. The mayor announced the consent vote passed unanimously among members present.
The meeting also included a Community Council update from Luke Maids, Community Council secretary, who reported on recent movie‑night events and the council's efforts to expand outreach and a Community Council website. Assistant City Manager Nate Rockwood briefed council members on upcoming street construction on Stagg Street, Smelter Street and portions of Main Street that staff said could begin as soon as next week, and on additional food truck nights planned for the summer.
Council members used their reports to thank staff and volunteers for Harvest Days events and noted public safety work by UFA and other city teams. The council announced that after the council meeting it would clear the room for a closed session to discuss the purchase, exchange or lease of real property.
