GROSSE ILE, Mich. — At its July 28 meeting the Grosse Ile Township Board completed several routine and personnel actions.
Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda, which included adoption of the July 14, 2025 minutes, the check register through July 25, 2025, and setting a public hearing on a special assessment for Elba Island. The motion carried.
Salary benchmarking RFP: Trustees approved distribution of a salary benchmarking/wage survey RFP. The scope as stated in the RFP asks bidders to determine appropriate pay ranges for all township positions, recommend minimum-to-maximum spreads and steps, and provide public- and private-sector compensation comparisons for comparable communities. Trustees said the final contract would require subsequent board approval.
Police hire: The board approved the township police commission’s recommendation to hire John Ames as a police officer with an effective board action dated July 28, 2025; his scheduled start date is Aug. 25, 2025. The board heard that Ames completed the departmental interview, police commission interview, background check, physical, drug screen and psychological exam. He will begin at 80% of patrol officer wage as provided in the current union contract and will serve a one-year probationary period. The hire is budgeted.
Outcomes: All three actions were approved by the board; the salary RFP and any contract awards will return to the board for approval if staff recommend a vendor.
