Collierville approves purchase of new brush truck and rear-loading garbage truck under cooperative contracts

Public Works Director Josh Russell told the board the sanitation division handles roughly 35,000 cubic yards of brush and bulky items annually across five primary routes and two backups, and that the department is moving toward a seven-year rotation for heavy equipment. The purchase would move Unit 418 (a 2017 model) to backup status and surplus an older 2002 unit. The board was told $235,000 had been budgeted for the brush truck and the proposed purchase price was under budget; savings will return to the sanitation fund at fiscal year-end.
On the garbage-collection side, staff reported rear loaders collect material outside the automated cans—about 16,500 cubic yards annually across four trucks and one backup. Unit 404 (2014) would move to backup status and a 2010 truck would be surplused. The board was shown chassis and vendor details and told the new trucks arrive fully outfitted and ready for service.
Motions approved were: purchase of a Peterson TL3 lightning loader on a Freightliner M2-106 chassis from River City Hydraulics for $222,000.492.06, and purchase of a Veil 5.025-yard rear-loading garbage truck on a Freightliner M2-106 chassis from River City Hydraulics for $259,294.18, both procured via the Sourcewell cooperative contract. Roll-call votes were unanimous in favor. Staff said the cost savings relative to budget will be returned to the sanitation fund.
