Collierville approves $48,000 design contract for Holmes Road bridge precast-slab overlay

The Town of Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted unanimously to approve a $48,000 professional services agreement with Pickering Firm for design work on a precast slab overlay for the Holmes Road Bridge.
Town staff said the bridge, built in 1966, was evaluated by the Tennessee Department of Transportation in March 2025 and TDOT advised the town that the bridge needed to be closed based on the evaluation. Staff recommended the precast-slab overlay as the most cost-effective repair option. The design agreement covers a preliminary site investigation, survey and environmental review, utility coordination, foundation design and construction documents. Design is expected to take about 12 weeks.
During the discussion staff noted the proposed precast slab would be set on the existing pile caps, which may require some adjustment during design, and said the overlay could extend the bridge’s usable life by roughly eight to 10 years. Staff also said work could be bid shortly after design is complete and that construction might begin in November or December, with potential reopening as early as February if all goes well.
Mayor Frazier and all aldermen voted yes on the design contract. No amendments to the motion were proposed during the meeting.
The Town indicated that if the precast option proves infeasible during the design investigation, staff will pursue alternative repair methods and return to the board with next steps.
