Commission approves interlocal agreements to fund school resource officers for FY2026

The Rogers County Commission voted to approve interlocal agreements with local school districts to continue the county-supported School Resource Officer (SRO) program for fiscal year 2026, commissioners said during the meeting.

Commissioners said the program is funded in part by a state three‑year grant and by contributions from participating schools. According to discussion on the record, the state grant is roughly $93,000 per year; the county will supplement the upcoming year as it did previously. Commissioners noted that for nine months some schools have covered about 70% of SRO costs and the county has made up the remaining months and the 30% shortfall for those nine months. Some districts fully budget SRO costs and others do not, according to the discussion.

A motion to approve the interlocal agreements was made during the meeting and the record shows Commissioner Hendrix voted “aye” and Commissioner Berg voted “aye.” The clerk announced, “Please enter local agreements as listed,” indicating the agreements were entered into the record as approved.

The agreements were discussed briefly in the context of the county budget process; no change to the county’s plan to supplement school contributions was announced at the meeting.

The action follows a multi‑year grant effort by the state to help establish SRO programs in schools; county staff and commissioners said the county will continue supplementing school and grant funding for the next year.
