Library staff propose folding Small Business Center into meeting-room policy, expand small-group use

Library staff proposed revising the meeting-room and Small Business Center policies to broaden the Small Business Center’s use as a small-group meeting room and to incorporate its rules into the main meeting-room policy, staff told the Wylie Library Advisory Board on Sept. 1.
The Small Business Center was originally sponsored by the Wylie Economic Development Corporation and was equipped for business planning and telework. After COVID usage declined, staff requested broader allowable uses; the WEDC agreed. Staff said the room will be reconfigured with different furniture to accommodate roughly eight people comfortably and will retain a TV and training capability.
"It's just another option for people," a staff speaker said, noting the library’s larger conference room still exists and that the Small Business Center would remain free because the WEDC continues to sponsor the space. Staff said they expect to return a consolidated meeting-room policy for board review in March; the policy is due in April.
Staff also raised clarifications such as limiting messy craft programs in carpeted rooms and routing activities that require mopping or sinks to other city meeting rooms. The board did not take formal action on the policy; staff requested feedback ahead of the March revision.
