Cannabis committee urges office to help applicants, proposes liaison to OCM

The Cannabis Licensing committee reported to the executive committee that it has drafted recommendations to improve communications and technical assistance for cannabis applicants and licensees.
The committee said recent municipal licensing rounds have produced confusion around how the Office of Cannabis Management measures distance from schools and that one recent application had been withdrawn because of proximity to both a school and an existing dispensary. To address recurring issues, the committee proposed two measures: establish an Office of Cannabis Business Services to provide technical assistance to community boards, licensees and applicants; and have that office act as a liaison between community boards and the Office of Cannabis Management to improve communication and transparency.
The committee speaker said the proposals aim to reduce administrative burdens for applicants and to speed clarity for community boards reviewing applications; the executive committee was supportive of moving the recommendations forward to the full board for consideration.
No formal city action was taken at the executive meeting; the committee's recommendations will be drafted as a resolution for board review.
