The Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 18 approved a home-occupation permit allowing Taylor Davis to operate an in-home daycare at 615 South Nicholas Circle.
Taylor Davis, the applicant, told the commission she has worked at Inspiration Elementary for four years and resigned to start the daycare. She said she expects to operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and does not plan to care for more than 10 children; her two own children would count toward that total. The application checklist included limits such as no more than 50% of the home used for the business and a fenced outdoor play area; Davis indicated she could comply with those conditions.
A neighbor, Nancy Earhart of 612 South Nicholas, asked how many children Davis planned to serve; Earhart said she had no objection but wanted clarification. Davis said she would not exceed 10 children. The commission noted the checklist language that the number of persons cared for is limited to a maximum of 12 adults or children, including the provider's own children.
Commissioners made and seconded a motion to approve the home-occupation request. The motion carried with the ayes noted on the record.
The commission offered Davis congratulations and wished her luck as the item concluded. No conditions beyond the standard checklist were recorded in the meeting notes.
