Briefing time changes and member availability Staff proposed moving several regularly scheduled 8:00 a.m. board briefings to 10:30 a.m. to accommodate leadership lab schedules. Some board members said a 10:30 start conflicts with their availability; members discussed alternatives including a 3:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. start if needed. One board member noted, "If I'm gonna have to take a whole day off of work anyways, might as well make it a whole day," supporting longer site‑visit days so travel and time off are used efficiently.
Site visit planning Staff presented a draft schedule of site visits that prioritized secondary campuses and suggested fitting elementary visits into afternoons or combining multiple elementaries into one day. Board members favored student‑led portions of visits and suggested lunches on campus with staff and students. The board discussed making some site visits whole‑day events to allow for deeper engagement (student presentations, tours, meetings with directors) and agreed staff will begin scheduling with school leaders and accommodate board availability when possible.
Listening posts and community outreach Board members discussed holding listening posts at varied locations (First Fridays, libraries, school sites) and making those events topical to draw new participants. The idea of soliciting topic suggestions from district advisory groups and the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) was raised. Staff agreed to pilot a QR‑code survey at committee events to gather topic suggestions for board listening posts.
Other scheduling notes Board members noted a conflict on Oct. 3 with concession work at a football game and agreed not to schedule a First Friday event that evening. Staff will circulate an events calendar in weekly updates and flag items that require board attendance.
Ending Staff will refine site‑visit times and locations and circulate a calendar; the board agreed to prioritize student engagement during visits and to solicit stakeholder suggestions for listening post topics.
