Randolph County commissioners on Sept. 8 approved adding a part-time event support position to the county classification and approved equipment purchases funded through a previously awarded Golden Leaf grant.
Taylor (Agricultural Center representative) asked the board to add an event support staff position to the Randolph County classification and pay plan. Taylor said no additional county funding was requested because funding had been allocated in the budget; the requested action was an administrative change to include the position in the county pay plan. The board approved adding the position as grade 113 with a hiring range presented by staff.
Cooperative Extension staff reported that a Golden Leaf grant awarded in 2023 will be used to buy equipment to support the Agricultural Center and a rental program for local farmers, and asked the board to approve purchases outlined in the memo. Lauren (Cooperative Extension) said some equipment will be used for grounds support (demo orchard, arena) and some will be part of an equipment-rental program tied to education and demonstrations for producers.
A motion to approve the equipment purchases in the total amount of $376,721 passed by voice vote (ayes recorded; no roll-call tally). Staff said some items would arrive soon and others might arrive next year depending on availability.
