Because the right-of-way is narrow in places, staff recommended a survey to determine whether a path can be built on the south side of the road without requiring more complex roadway relocation. The board approved spending $20,000 for the south-side survey; staff said further surveying of the north side would be more costly and unnecessary unless the south-side option proves infeasible.
Commissioners discussed pedestrian crossings, lighting and potential roadway adjustments and asked that safety measures (e.g., marked crosswalks and appropriate lighting) be included in subsequent design work and any grant applications.
Ending: County staff will use the survey results to pursue grants and to develop a design that addresses crossings and safety; the board approved the south-side survey unanimously.
