The Wylie city council on Aug. 26 again deferred consideration of a zoning change that would allow a motor fueling station with a convenience store and drive‑through restaurant at 1400 Country Club Road (zoning case 2020‑56).
The item was taken off the table for consideration at the start of the regular agenda so the council could hear the applicant’s request. Planning staff reported the applicant’s engineer is still revising the zoning exhibits. At council request, staff opened a required public hearing; no members of the public came forward to speak. The applicant asked council to table the item to allow the engineering team to complete changes and return with a final zoning exhibit.
Mayor Pro Tem and other council members expressed frustration that the item had been pushed more than once; Mayor Pro Tem said repeated deferrals can frustrate citizens who might appear to speak during a public hearing. Despite those comments, Councilman Williams moved to table and Councilman Pickens seconded; the motion carried 4–1 with the Mayor Pro Tem casting the lone vote against the delay.
What the item is: the proposal would change zoning from Neighborhood Services (NS‑S) to Community Retail with Special Use Permit (CR‑SUP) on about 1.056 acres to allow a motor fueling station, convenience store and drive‑through restaurant on property at 1400 Country Club Road. Planning staff noted the case previously went to Planning & Zoning and had been considered earlier in the council cycle.
Next steps: the item is tabled for up to three meetings. Staff and the applicant said they expect to return with a final zoning exhibit; if the applicant is not ready after three meetings, the item may be brought back or further delayed.
