Centre County proclaims August 2025 Child Support Awareness Month; office cites top statewide performance measures

The Centre County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 1 adopted Proclamation No. 37 designating August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month in Centre County and heard staff highlight the office's federal performance results for fiscal 2024.

Shelley (last name not provided), a long-serving member of the county child-support staff, told commissioners that Centre County led Pennsylvania on two federal fiscal-year performance measures: establishment of child support orders and collection of delinquent support (arrearage collection) for the federal fiscal period cited. She said the office also reported strong rates for paternity establishment and verification of children's health-insurance coverage.

Shelley noted that Centre County was one of six pilot counties in the state to test an electronic document-exchange system and described other service improvements, including online filing and the ability to appear by phone in unsafe situations. "We're doing really well in paternity establishment," she said, and reported specific percentages cited to the commissioners as the county's performance on the federal measures.

Commissioner Concepcion and others thanked child-support staff for their work. The board moved and adopted Proclamation No. 37 by voice vote; commissioners said the office would staff a county booth at a community night-out event that evening.
