Kootenai County commissioners approve multiple personnel classification changes, relocation reimbursement and temporary sheriff’s extension

Kootenai County commissioners approved a series of personnel actions at their Human Resources meeting on Aug. 21, 2025, voting to downgrade and refill an assessor mapping post, reorganize reprographics under Building and Grounds with two new classifications, release a previously authorized $2,500 relocation reimbursement for a former prosecuting-attorney hire who met a 12-month employment condition, and extend a temporary civil deputy specialist position in the sheriff’s office for four months. The board also entered and exited an executive session under Idaho Code 74-206(1)(b) and (1)(a) and directed staff to proceed as discussed.

At the start of the business agenda, the board considered a request to downgrade an assessor mapping position from "Cadastral Mapping Specialist 2" to "Cadastral Mapping Specialist 1" so the county could refill a vacancy at a lower grade. Shelly Amos, speaking for the request, said, "All we are doing is requesting to get downgrade the position so we can refill a position that somebody had left at a higher grade." Commissioners approved the downgrade; the position is 50% funded, and staff said the downgrade had to be completed before the county could open recruitment.
