Residents urge Wake Forest to lift electric-scooter ban, propose rules for safe use

Russell Hammock said his family purchased an electric scooter for his daughter to travel safely to Wake Forest High School and asked the board to allow “responsible use on sidewalks and low speed roads within town limits.” He acknowledged concerns about scooter use on greenways and suggested enforcement for reckless behavior.
Nolan Davis, who identified himself as a resident of Heritage Butte Trail, told the board that banning scooters after families bought them was unfair. He offered safety recommendations including obeying traffic signals and stop signs, helmets for riders, one rider per scooter and limiting use to greenways and low-speed roads.
In commissioners’ reports, a commissioner said they had asked staff for an ordinance revision at the prior meeting and that the board would take up the issue soon. No formal action or vote on the scooter rules occurred at this meeting.
