Lockheed Martin and University of Kentucky officials announced an expansion Tuesday: Lockheed Martin opened an Engineering Center of Excellence at UK’s Coldstream Research Campus and said the site will add about 70 full-time jobs in Lexington.
Company and university leaders described the new facility as a collaboration hub for research and engineering talent. Lockheed Martin said the center will support programs worldwide while strengthening ties to UK’s College of Engineering and local workforce development.
Why it matters: The company said the center will draw on UK engineering students and faculty and help recruit and train local talent for defense-related work. In the program segment, a Lockheed Martin representative said the operation has supported U.S. Special Operations Command and related programs in the region since 2009.
Officials said the expansion reflects a long-term partnership with UK and a commitment to regional economic growth; no public incentives, tax or contract details were described on the segment.
