Transportation staff briefed the Flower Mound Town Council on ongoing and upcoming roadway projects managed by TxDOT and the town that will affect traffic and local travel patterns.
Matt (Transportation staff) reviewed a list of projects: FM 2499 at FM 407 (adding dual left-turn lanes; project began June 16 with an estimated 144 working days), panel replacements on FM 2499 done overnight, a Denton county striping contract with a pre-construction meeting scheduled, US 377 Argyle section (ready-to-let date staff was told is 2028), a US 377 Creek section south of 1171 (ready-to-let March 2030), I-35 Fringe Road South (ready-to-let December 2027), and other projects affecting the town such as new First Ranch traffic signals and an FM 3040 project to add turn lanes and a third through lane.
Council and staff discussion
Council members said school start and special events had highlighted traffic backups, particularly at the FM 2499/Riverwalk (Grapevine) intersection. Staff said they would coordinate with Grapevine and run new counts to consider timing adjustments; the town has a PTZ camera in the Grapevine signal and good interjurisdictional cooperation. Staff provided email contacts for public inquiries: publicworks@flowermound.gov and transportation@flowermound.gov.
Next steps
Staff will continue to monitor the projects and coordinate with TxDOT and neighboring jurisdictions; where appropriate the town will pursue signal timing tweaks and share schedule updates through the provided contact emails.
