Wylie Fire Rescue paramedic George Watson recognized as Texas American Legion Paramedic of the Year

Wylie — The council meeting on Aug. 12 opened with a presentation: George Watson of Wylie Fire Rescue was recognized by the American Legion as the Texas American Legion Paramedic/EMT of the Year and presented with a plaque.
Mary Lang, commander of the American Legion Hale Com Best Post 315 in Wylie, described Watson's career and contributions. Lang said Watson began his service with Wylie Fire Rescue in 2021, previously worked with ETMC starting in 2017, became a paramedic in February 2019, and has served as a field training officer and on CPR and alerting programs. "George Watson started his fire service career with the Wylie Fire and Rescue in 2021 ... George has a passion for serving the citizens of Wylie and being his hometown," Lang said.
Mayor Matthew Porter and others thanked Watson for his service; Watson told the council he began in 2017 on the ambulance with East Texas Medical Center, joined the Wylie fire department in 2021 and has worked as a field training officer. "Medicine and EMS is pretty special to me," Watson said.
Why it matters: The award recognizes a local first responder's statewide selection by the American Legion and highlights the city's newly formed EMS division and local emergency services staffing.
