Boulder City Council on Aug. 7 voted unanimously to call up a site‑review amendment and use review for 1836 Nineteenth Street. The amendment would allow the existing structure to be used as a single‑family detached dwelling in the RH‑2 zoning district and would amend the existing planned-unit development (PUD) to maintain an existing rear deck.
Why council called it up: Several council members and observers characterized the planning-board process and discussion as unusual and requested council review to ensure the property owner and neighborhood interests were fairly considered. Council member Tara Weiner said she viewed the planning board’s handling as "Kafkaesque" and asked for broader review. Council member Matt Benjamin and members of the public also urged closer consideration.
What council did: Council made and seconded a motion to call item 4b up for full council review; the motion passed by voice vote (recorded as unanimous 9–0). Council members did not conduct a final substantive deliberation on the merits in the call‑up motion; the item will return for discussion at a later date.
What’s next: Staff will prepare materials for council consideration of the site‑review amendment; the council may take final action after reviewing staff recommendations and planning‑board findings.
