Auditor reports payroll conversion problems after Tyler Technology rollout; staff training and fixes underway

Ramsey County’s auditor told commissioners that payroll conversion to the county’s new Tyler Technology system produced several problems during the first payrolls, including a handful of employees whose direct deposit failed because of incorrect account information provided during conversion.

The auditor said vendor support from Tyler helped resolve most issues and that the county has fixed outstanding payments. She urged employees to check direct deposit and to notify payroll staff immediately of any issues. “If it wasn't for them, I would be gone. I would've... thrown in the towel,” the auditor said, describing vendor assistance during a difficult transition.

The county has a Tyler training environment that staff can use to test transactions without affecting live data; trainers recorded many sessions and the auditor said she will check whether additional recorded modules are available and follow up on in‑person training options for staff who request it.

Why it matters: payroll interruptions affect employees directly and can damage trust in county administration. The auditor recommended cross‑training and use of the Tyler training site to reduce risk during future pay cycles.
