Board approves September retreat to streamline Blount County Schools strategic plan

The Blount County Board of Education voted to use a September board retreat to re-examine the district’s strategic plan and to work toward reducing the plan to three primary goals, the board said during its August meeting.
Board discussion referenced guidance from the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) recommending a concise plan of no more than three goals. Board members said a shorter, more repeatable set of goals would be easier to communicate across the district and be more actionable for administrators.
Board member Erica Moore noted the district’s superintendent evaluation is tied to the strategic plan and said the evaluation will also need to be revised once the board finalizes new goals. The board approved a motion directing work on the strategic plan at the September retreat and asked Director Ridge and the administrative team to prepare materials for consideration.
