Final 'Movies Under the Stars,' summer camp wrap and fundraiser plans highlighted at Baldwin Park meeting

Program coordinator Jimmy Wong said recent family movie nights for Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out 2 drew 70–80 viewers; staff advised attendees to dress warmly for evening outdoor screenings.
Staff also presented a recap of summer camp and before/after school programs. Program specialist Mirna Escobedo said the summer program began June 9 and runs through August 13; the program reported 106 participants in the first week. The camp included twice‑weekly swim sessions, weekly walking field trips to neighborhood businesses, and a Tuesday library visit. Staff said they partnered with the Valley County Water District on an educational field trip for children ages 8–12.
Senior recreation leader Gabriel Salazar described the annual talent show, which this year celebrated its 30th edition. Salazar said about 102 children performed in the talent show, supported by more than 40 staff across departments; organizers staged the program outdoors near Morgan Park’s amphitheater to accommodate larger parent attendance.
Staff also said the department piloted a partnership with Kaiser Permanente that provided weekly “hot topic” sessions for 10‑ to 12‑year‑olds on subjects such as hygiene, bullying and social skills. Staff described that collaboration as free of charge to program participants.
Before‑and‑after school registration for the coming school year is open, staff said; sites listed included Foster, Vineland, Tracy and Eddy schools, and registration materials are on the city website, in the social‑media channels and on community marquees.
Finally, staff said the department was contacted by PIXA company to host an all‑day fundraiser to benefit the city’s Santa Claus program. The event would run roughly 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on two days in August, and staff said the foundation would receive 15% of proceeds at regular price; staff will circulate flyer and social graphic materials once finalized.
Commissioners thanked staff for the summer programs and encouraged continued planning for fall and winter events.
