Planning staff told the Amelia County Planning Commission that three community meetings on the comprehensive plan update drew mixed turnout and active public discussion, and that the Community Review Committee (CRC) will compile comments for the panel's next meeting.
"I attended the one last Tuesday here in the village," a planning presenter said, noting that the sessions included exercises about which parks and features to preserve or add. Staff reported approximate attendance counts of 17, about 10, and about 34 at the three meetings, and said one meeting in Manborough had more sustained small‑group discussion despite a smaller overall attendance.
Commissioners and staff described differing formats across locations: some meetings broke attendees into small groups and prompted interactive exercises; others were larger presentations and felt less conducive to discussion. "There were some topics that...ended up as both an add and a restrict," a presenter said, characterizing divergent community views.
The transcript records that proposed provisions related to accessory dwelling units (ADUs) were tabled. A commissioner said supervisors had "a lot of questions" about ADU recommendations and that the item was postponed until at least one supervisor could meet one‑on‑one with Austin (identified in the meeting as a staff contact) to resolve particular questions. The commission agreed to await answers to those questions before proceeding.
Staff said the CRC will compile the meeting feedback and discuss it at the next comprehensive plan meeting, scheduled for next Tuesday at about 10 a.m., according to the transcript. No formal vote on the comprehensive plan update occurred at this meeting, and the transcript did not record specific changes to the draft plan.
