Board approves modest hourly pay increases for activities staff and Magic Adventure program

The Monticello Public School District board on July 1 approved the 2025–26 activities and community education hourly rates, including market-driven increases for pool staff and student aides in the Magic Adventure program.
Rob Daneker, director of human resources, presented the proposal developed with the directors of community education and activities and the director of business services. The packet included only a few changes from the prior year: a market-based increase for pool staff (lifeguards) and a change in Magic Adventure classifications. Daneker said the student aid rate in Magic Adventure was proposed to increase from $14.00 to $15.15 per hour to improve recruitment and retention. He also noted that site-lead positions are generally handled through individual contracts for year-round employees.
Board Member Melissa Curtis moved the action; Casey Root seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote, 5–0. During discussion, Daneker confirmed community education is run on a zero-based model—program fees are intended to cover costs—and rate increases would generally be offset by corresponding revenue adjustments to maintain program balance.
No other changes to the activities schedule were recorded in the meeting. The approved schedule will be used for 2025–26 staffing and registration purposes.
