Monticello school board accepts nearly $15,300 in community donations for reading and fishing programs

The Monticello Public School District board on July 1 unanimously approved a resolution accepting three community donations totaling $15,300 to support district reading programs and the high school fishing team.

Superintendent Eric Olsen introduced the gifts and described them as “collaborative support throughout the community.” The board accepted $9,800 from Title Wish donors and $5,000 from the Monticello Lions Club to support the district’s Rally to Read program, which the superintendent said includes a high-school book program and a component for families with children ages 0–4. The board also accepted $500 from American Legion Post 260 to sponsor the Monticello fishing team.

The acceptance was read into the record as a resolution and moved by Board Member Jeff Hegley and seconded by Board Member Mary Bartel. The motion passed on a voice vote, 5–0.

Board Chair Steven thanked the community for the donations during the meeting. No conditions or restrictions on use beyond those described in the resolution were recorded in the meeting minutes.

The donations will be administered by district staff according to the program design described by Olsen; the board did not add directives beyond formal acceptance.
