Council amends budget to accept $1,200 donation for National Night Out event

The Crescent City Council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2025-35 to amend the 2025–26 fiscal year budget to accept and allocate funds for the Crescent City Police Department’s National Night Out event.
A city official presenting the item said this year’s event is scheduled for Aug. 12, a week later than the national date, and that the department had secured volunteer and community support including a live band, backpacks and bicycles for distribution, and a planned helicopter landing by a medical transport partner. The presenter said a local McDonald’s owner donated $1,200 that will be deposited in the general fund and transferred to the department’s explorer account to pay for bounce houses and similar event expenses.
Council members asked a few logistical questions about the event; the chief confirmed the fire department will be on site for safety, and that community partners including Seawake will provide food. With no public comment, a council member moved to adopt the budget amendment and the clerk recorded the vote as: Council member Dooley — yes; Council member Greenough — yes; Council member Tinkler — yes; Mayor Pro Tem Wright — yes; Mayor Altman — yes.
The change authorizes the city to accept and spend the donation for the Aug. 12 event; the chief reported the department expects to run community activities, giveaways and safety demonstrations.
