Crescent City council approves adding delinquent sewer charges to property tax roll

The Crescent City Council voted unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 2025-34, determining amounts of delinquent sewer charges for specified parcels and authorizing the county to collect those charges on next year’s property tax bills.

Finance Director Linda Lever told the council the hearing is the city’s annual process for sewer-only customers who are at least one month behind on their bills. “For sewer only service, there is no water service for us to shut off,” Lever said, explaining that the council must hold the hearing before submitting delinquencies to the county tax roll.

Lever said the list published with the agenda was updated the day of the meeting to remove accounts that paid before today. She added that customers must pay the full outstanding balance to be removed from the delinquency list; partial payments did not qualify for removal.

No members of the public spoke during the hearing. A council member moved and a second was made to adopt the resolution; the clerk recorded the vote as: Council member Dooley — yes; Council member Greenough — yes; Council member Tinkler — yes; Mayor Pro Tem Wright — yes; Mayor Altman — yes. The motion passed and the resolution will be forwarded to the county for inclusion on next year’s property tax bills.

The action formalizes the city’s existing practice for recovering unpaid sewer-only charges when shutting off water is not an available enforcement tool. The council did not alter the published list beyond removing accounts that paid before the hearing.
