Commissioners reviewed renovation plans to convert a small building at the Houston County Farm Center to house the sanitation collection and billing department and agreed to place the renovation on the Tuesday agenda for formal action.
The chairman said staff had taped off the building for commissioners to walk through and that the sanitation building project had become slightly more involved than initially planned. The county considered acquiring the volunteer fire department building previously but decided the Farm Center location is more centrally located and more accessible. The chairman said the cost will be slightly higher than the alternate site, but the work will be paid from the sanitation enterprise fund rather than the general fund.
A staff member confirmed the renovation was already included in the budget. Commissioners noted that the probate judge, who uses the site as a polling place, can continue to use the modified space. County staff also thanked Tommy and Stacy for their work on design and site preparations.
No formal vote was recorded at this meeting; the chairman asked whether there was any objection to placing the item on the Tuesday agenda and none was raised.
