Commission to consider consenting to transfer of Knowlgy Total Communications franchise

Peter (staff member) told commissioners the packet of documents indicates the transfer and that the county's franchise agreements require the commission's consent to such changes in ownership. Staff said the consent would not change customer charges or services under the existing franchise agreements; rather, it is a required procedural approval under the county's contract with the provider.
Staff also explained that, under the franchise agreements, the county may take no action and the transfer would be deemed approved after 90 days. Commissioners discussed the variety of franchise agreements the county holds with different internet and cable providers and the county's efforts to move toward a standard form agreement for all providers.
No formal vote took place at this meeting; the chairman asked whether there was any objection to placing the consent item on the commission agenda for Tuesday and none was raised.
