Houston County to consider contract for enhanced GIS mapping support

A county GIS staff member said parcel data are stored in-house but updates to the publicly visible parcel viewer had lagged and the prior contractor was effectively a one-person operation that had taken other employment, leaving the county with intermittent support.
Staff said the contracted support would increase the frequency of updates to the public parcel viewer (staff have not yet decided whether those updates would be daily or weekly) and would allow new aerial photography to be uploaded when it is available. The presenter said the last county aerial photography was from 02/2022 and the county plans to budget for new imagery in the 2026–27 budget cycle.
Commissioners asked whether taxpayers would see a change in what is available online; staff said parcel owner records would be updated on a sooner cadence than under the current arrangement. No formal vote was recorded at the meeting; the chairman asked whether there was any objection to placing the item on Tuesday's agenda and none was raised.
The proposal as discussed would authorize the chairman to negotiate and execute the contract following placement on the agenda and any subsequent action at Tuesday's meeting.
