Sarah Schneller, the district’s director of student learning, data and accountability, told the board the district is in year four of implementing its multi‑tiered system of supports (MTSS) and is making refinements that are informed by the district’s data.
Why it matters: MTSS is the district’s framework for identifying student needs and allocating academic and behavioral supports; changes affect how students are screened, monitored and offered interventions.
Schneller said students receiving Academic Intervention Services (AIS) have shown higher growth percentiles compared with peers not in AIS, and that the district’s universal screener and state assessment proficiency levels have increased over time. To reduce unnecessary retesting, the 2025‑26 MTSS plan adds a “winter assessment decision tree” clarifying how to handle students already in AIS during the mid‑year screen.
The plan also adds additional resources targeted to English language learners and a high‑school‑specific section focused on ninth grade. Schneller said ninth‑grade teachers now have access to Intervention Compass and data walls populated with eighth‑grade information to inform early interventions.
Board members asked when the next public reporting of results would occur; Schneller said district data would be available in October and that the district will continue to monitor trends and refine supports so that “service follows need.”
Ending: Schneller said the district will continue to strengthen core Tier‑1 instruction, expand teacher and administrator use of data, and sustain systems that support intervention decisions.
