Canal Arts presents two‑mile “Peoples of the Canal” history walk; committee raises parking, funding and accessibility concerns

Canal Arts presented a proposed two‑mile public‑art and interpretive history walk called “Peoples of the Canal” to the Pickleweed Advisory Committee of San Rafael on Aug. 6, seeking feedback before formal review. The project would place roughly two dozen signs and a sculptural element along the Starkweather Pathway and parts of Pickleweed Park and was described by Canal Arts as “the most ambitious one we’ve taken on.”

The trail is designed as an outdoor educational exhibit tracing local history from the Ice Age through indigenous Coast Miwok stewardship to more recent waves of immigration and present‑day climate threats.
