Board members said the resolution is not a request for new law but for lawmakers to adopt better practices—such as avoiding late decisions that force districts to use reserves, cut programs or delay operational plans. Board members cited recent disruptions they said were caused by changes to special education transportation funding, library-aid reductions and questions about QComp funding.
One board member said she planned to talk to neighboring school boards about bringing similar language to their boards and noted MSBA and AMSD interest in a position paper on local governance. The board did not specify further local implementation steps; the approved resolution will be part of the district’s administrative actions to be forwarded as appropriate.
