Resident raises safety, tree-removal and communication concerns over sports-field project

A Forest Hills resident who identified herself as Carrie addressed the board Aug. 20 with questions about a sports-field renovation near Braddock Road that she said appeared to involve more work than replacing turf.
Carrie said she discovered the project after a neighbor in Churchill received a letter describing turf replacement and that she has observed construction activity “every day.” She asked whether the diamond was being relocated, whether fencing or other protections would be installed to prevent baseballs from striking nearby homes and vehicles, and what the project budget and timeline are.
“During this season… I would get three to 12 balls per week from the games in the yard,” she said, and described an incident in which a ball nearly struck her. Carrie asked who to contact; the board directed her to exchange information with Danny, the district’s facilities representative, who the chair said can “answer all of your questions.”
The resident also reported that crews recently cut down a roughly 150‑year‑old oak tree on the edge of the project site and questioned why it had been removed. She said she watched the crew cut it down and was concerned the workers were not using personal protective equipment.
Board members acknowledged the facilities director as the appropriate follow-up contact and agreed to exchange contact information with the resident. The comments appeared during the public-comment period; the board did not take formal action on the project during the meeting.
