School board approves surplus auction for Greenville items, approves online sale and pickup plan

The Madison County School Board approved surplus property lists for Greenville Elementary and the district transportation department and accepted a plan to auction the items online.

Mister White presented the surplus lists and noted four inventory items originally listed as grant-funded through North Florida Child Development (item numbers 577–580). The board clarified the Greenville inventory approval excluded playground equipment and that playground equipment would be relocated to another county site.

Brandon McGee of Hickory Auctions described how the online auction will work if the board approved the surplus list. He said the auction will go live to bidders in the United States and Canada and run until the upcoming Sunday, with staggered item closings beginning at about 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. on that day. McGee explained the platform adds one minute to an item’s countdown if a bid is placed within the last minute to simulate a live auction finish. He said a public preview will be held at Greenville Elementary from noon until 3 p.m. on the coming Saturday and that pickup will be at Greenville on the following Monday and Tuesday from noon until 6 p.m. McGee said nothing leaves the property until payment is received.

Miss Thompson moved to approve the surplus lists for Greenville Elementary and the transportation department; Miss Knight seconded the motion. The board approved the motion on a unanimous voice vote, 5-0.

McGee said items without bids would be handled in coordination with the district and that the auction company would work with district staff to assist buyers with pickup and payment. Board members requested the district confirm which items were grant-funded and whether any items should be reassigned within the district before auction.
